True Light Shines Academy (TLSA) works closely with students to facilitate their ability to “internalize” learning. Using math manipulatives, language arts through real literature, hands-on science, and history/social studies that are organized around engaging themes, we create a more productive learning environment that engages the brain and increases understanding. Our small student population and class sizes enable us to focus on students' individual needs, learning styles, and career goals, while ensuring understanding of the academic material.
TLSA uses the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as a minimum guide to ensure grade level benchmarks are met in the areas of language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.
TLSA provides opportunities for our students to grow cognitively, socially, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. TLSA encourages students to discover the gifts that God has given them, and provides opportunities to go out into the community to serve others.
True Light Shines Academy believes in involving the entire family in the learning process and aims to enrich the academic experience through experiential learning.
Family time is valuable, therefore assignments are typically embedded in the school day.
Family Projects provide an opportunity for families to work together on an engaging learning task.
Family Field Trips provide the opportunity for families to learn and experience new places together. Past trips include the Creation Museum, Washington, D.C., Gettysburg & Philadelphia, and Jamestown & Yorktown.
Research indicates that academics are enhanced when school uniforms are adopted. TLSA has enacted a policy for uniforms that is affordable and offers several options.
